Body fluids are rich in nutrients, usually free of competitors and sheltered from the elements and predators. Quarians have always had weak immune systems due to a lack of pathogenic organisms in their natural environment. There is no reason the situation should have gotten so bad in the first place.Ģ. If sterility was the only reason for the weakened immune systems, the Quarians would have noticed this early on and come up with a very simple solution: letting their babies put stuff in their mouths.

Results: allergies, asthma and/or various autoimmune diseases. Basically, an immune system needs work if it does not have any, it will invent some and make a pest of itself. Excessive sterility tends to cause the immune system to attack things it normally ignores. It is not nearly long enough for the immune system to have degenerated so much. The Quarians have only been exiles for a few centuries. It seems very unlikely they wouldn’t put every effort into breeding out their most glaring weakness. However, this would imply that the Quarians also have the means to reverse the damage. This claim suggests that the Quarians have some sort of Lamarckian evolution - that traits can be acquired during one’s lifetime and then passed on to the offspring. Quarians have a weak immune system due to centuries of living in a sterile environment. Hoping this post helps ME fan writers with a thing for worldbuilding or theorists out there.ġ.

The second part is my theory which is basically an alternate explanation for Quarian biology and why it’s portrayed the way it is in the game. The post below is co-written between us and basically has 2 parts: the first part is Erimies debunking canon claims regarding Quarian biology and making the case that the ME verse Quarian biology is basically one big art major biology / critical research failure incident. Aside from being an amazing writer, Erimies just so happens to be a practicing biologist and so has some very pointed criticism for the frankly scientifically inaccurate description of the Quarian immune system (a topic that comes up a lot for any ME fans who fancy Tali and her sisters/brothers… of which I am one). This post came about from a discussion between I and a friend, the amazing regarding the Quarian biology.
